The Norsemen are one of the three playable factions in ParaWorld, and the first faction of the campaign mode. Natives of the Northlands and the Icewastes, they are focused mainly on defense and raw strength, making them very hardy, but somewhat immobile. They also have the strongest navy of the three factions. They are based on historical Viking raiders and "early Northern Europeans", and their antagonistic counterpart are the Barbarians.

ParaWorld Description
They are strong, proud warriors who cannot deny that their roots lie in a northern Europe long since gone. Tall and equipped with powerful weapons and heavy armor, they are all the perfect warriors for close combat. Hardened by their rough customs and strengthened by their incomparable courage and fighting spirit, they never avoid an enemy. Due to the fact that they are equipped with strong armor and various metal weapons forged by their own weapon smiths, they are almost invincible in close combat situations. For the rough and ready Norsemen, there are only two options: victory or death. The Norsemen are able to construct a large variety of buildings and more importantly, massive defensive fortifications. Furthermore, the Norsemen have many units which are very efficient in close combat.

The Norsemen are proud and warlike people who prize the art of war and acts of heroism above all else
Solid and thatch-roofed, Norsemen buildings are traditionally mde of grey stone blocks. The stone and wood used in their construction gives witness to their strenght and stability. Bit by bit, additional carved wooden ornamentation begins to grace these buildings, giving them a more elegant and harmonious appearance. The triangular doors and bulky construction remains unchanged throughout all stages of development.
The Norsemen are particulary skilled at shipbuilding and fishing. Their technological developments focus on the use of metal. Their inventions are usually heavy, slow and short-ranged as they are powerful and well-armored. Long ago, befor the unending ice had spread so far, the Norsemen lived throughout the Northlands and what are now the Icewastes. The Great Halls of Valhalla were the spiritual and cultural center of Norsemen civilization, and the apitome of Norsemen craftwork. Valhalla lays high upon a mountain, and many were the Norsemen who came to the enormous celebrations and the councils held there. Then came the long winter. Howling out of the far north, the ice storms forced the Norsemen to move to warmer surroundings. and here did the tribes spread across the whole of Northland, and contact between the clans was gradually lost.
And so it came to be that the Norsemen were unaware that one of their own tribes fell into the company of bad men and joined forces with a mysterious stranger from a far distant corner of the world.
Today the Norsemen live for the most part in the Northlands, where they jealously guard their territories. The Barbarians, renegade Norsemen, are the only exception. They can be found wherever they are needed to further their powerful friend's plans.
